In Nigeria, one very staple food is garri naturally made out of cassava tubers. This natural delicacy has been nicknamed ‘garry’, ‘African cornflakes’, ‘garium sulphate’, ‘garrison’ and so many other funny names. It is loved by all and sundry, because it is cheap, affordable and consumed by the rich and poor alike.
It could be consumed with milk, sugar, suya, groundnut, kulikuli, coconut, fried meat, fish: raw, cooked, fried and the list is endless. Some take it as a form of snack, others have it as real food. It may also be transformed and consumed as ‘Eba’, that is when it is prepared with hot water and eaten with soup. Garri has numerous benefits as it increases vitality in consumers.
A lot of people take garri in Nigeria, even the so-called celebrities including Davido desires and consume it.
The benefit of eating garri is immeasurable. Garri has a high fibre content that helps facilitate digestion and improve proper bowel movement. It is fights "Irritable Bowel Syndrome" and can also help reduce the risk of colonic cancer. In view of this, garri's bulk of fibre can be seen as an internal cleaning agent as it helps clear out fecal impaction of your intestinal walls, thereby increasing your nutrient absorbtion rate.
