BREAKING: Pres. Buhari agrees to pay Super Falcons outstanding bonuses after protest

President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to the payment of all bonuses owed the Super Falcons within the next 48 hours after a protest staged by the country’s senior women’s team in front of the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday morning.
The Falcons are owed bonuses and allowances for matches played in the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Cameroon, which the African champions eventually won after defeating hosts Indomitable Lionesses by a lone goal scored by Desire Oparanozie in the final.
The eight time AWCON winners have been staging a sit-in protest at their Abuja hotel since getting back in the country from the competition, but the ladies took their protest to the streets on Wednesday with placards and banners.
They caught the attention of the president, who is due to submit the 2017 budget today, when their protest got to the front of the National Assembly.
The president, through his chief of staff, Abba Kyari promised to pay all their entitlements within the next 48hours. The players were told to submit a means of contact, before being told to return to their hotel, which they have since done.
The NFF owe the players at least $16, 500 each in match bonuses for winning the AWCON, but have only paid them N600, 000 (approximately $1, 900) each..
