Funke Akindele had appeared among the movies cast on Amazon-owned movie database, IMDb which created huge interest among Nollywood lovers, who were very eager to see one of theirs appear in what could be one of the highest-grossing movies of all time.

According to IMDb, Akindele was to play a member of the Dora Milaje, a team of women who serve as personal bodyguards of the Black Panther, the spiritual leader of Wakanda.

Genevieve Nnaji is however replaced in the movie cast to play the same role “Dora Milaje” and can be clearly seen on movie database, IMDb.

World famous DJ KHALED just made it clear to everyone that he's the new boss in town.

Pop superstar Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid granted an interview in the latest issue of US based Hunger Magazine.
The Starboy Records boss & Sony Music/RCA act in his interview explained that inasmuch as his aim is to make music for the world, he is however very much satisfied with his current African fanbase.
The afrobeats star also insisted that he is not trying to live like the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti although he idolizes him.

On being labeled the face of Afrobeats: I’m not really seeing myself as the one champion of the movement. I’m just contributing my own little part. Keep the movement moving, and take it there, you know? I’d say we make afro-pop. I don’t just make afrobeats… I make music. I draw inspiration from all over. From dancehall reggae, afrobeat, American music as well. Whatever I listen to, I draw inspiration from.
On the lofty expectations from his music on the international scene: The aim is not really to cross over. I just want to make good music for the world. It’s really not in my mind to cross over to America. I have my own fan base, which is Africa. And I just want to keep feeding that fan base and hope it grows.
On the similarities between himself and the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti: Every artist has that one person that inspired them, or a group of artists that inspired them. Fela happens to be a very big inspiration to my music, Bob Marley as well. So I’m just here spreading good vibes. I’m not trying to live like Fela or do what he has done. I just appreciate everything he did when he was alive and I am here to create my own legacy.

A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition says people who eat fried potatoes two or more times a week double their risk of an early death compared to those who avoid them. The researchers however noted that eating potatoes that have not been fried was not linked to a similar early mortality risk.

The study tracked 4,440 people aged 45 to 79 over a period of eight years to study osteoarthritis. This research team decided to momentarily set aside the main issue of osteoarthritis and look at participants' consumption of potatoes.

So the researchers divided study participants into subgroups based on how frequently they ate potatoes each week. Over the eight years, a total of 236 of the participants died.

Analyzing the data for each group, Veronese and his team found that those who ate fried potatoes two to three times each week doubled their chance of dying early compared to those who ate no fried potatoes. French fries, potato chips, hash browns and any other preparation requiring a fryer are all included under the umbrella of "fried potatoes".

Age or sex of participants did not influence the result, but the data showed men were more likely than women and younger participants were more likely than older participants to enjoy the fried food.

The study was led by Dr. Nicola Veronese, lead author of the study and a scientist at the National Research Council in Padova, Italy.

The next agenda was the winner of the One Campaign, which was presented by Hon. Desmond Elliot and One Campaign African head, Sarah Makka.

For projecting the menace of poverty, the advocacy for girl education, the winner was Aiyeola and she will travel to New York to speak to the United Nations Assembly and world leaders on the issue of girl education.
The BBN, is a reality TV show based on the Big Brother television show, in which the 12 contestants lived in an isolated house in South Africa, and competed for the grand prize of N25million and a SUV.
 

Maje Ayida has dragged Toke Makinwa to court over her book titled ‘On Becoming’. Maje claims Toke is out to tarnish his image with the book and he wants the court to stop her from selling the book or doing any promotion for the book.
Toke took to Instagram to share photos of herself promoting the book. The OAP also said God will fight for her in the court of law.

SONY Music is not happy with Nigerian pop singer, Wizkid over the leak of his new song with Drake ‘Hush Up The Silence (Come Closer)’, TheNet reports.
The single appeared online a few days.
According to TheNet, they received a mail from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (an association of record companies SONY Music is part of) to assist in taking the song down.
The mail reads in part: ‘We have learned that your service is making available, distributing and/or referring/linking users to infringing copies of the following sound recordings, the copyrights in which are exclusively owned or controlled by one or more IFPI Represented Companies. We are asking for your immediate assistance in stopping this unauthorised activity.’
Some international music sites have also deleted the song.
Wizkid had a great 2016, winning all artiste of the year awards he was nominated for.
He also went on a sold out tour with Chris Brown and topped the chart with a collaboration with Drake which earned him a Grammy nomination.

Telecoms giant MTN has paid the Federal Government N80 billion of the N330 billion fine imposed on the network for failing to deactivate over five million unregistered SIM card.

The network was initially fined $5.2 billion (N1.04 trillion) for failing to deactivate more than five million unregistered SIM cards but was later reduced to N330 billion.

The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, said that the network company paid the sum for the first year. He said:

    For the first year, they paid N80 billion, after paying the initial N50 billion, and they will have to pay for three years until they complete the N330 billion.

    MTN does not have a choice, when the law was made, it said for every unregistered SIM card in use, the fine is N200,000, the law never anticipated that one company will be in violation to the tune of millions of lines.

    It was inconceivable, so when the thing was added 200,000 times 5.2million lines, it came to a trillion plus.

    When it happened, the MTN did four things; one they accepted that they were in default, two, they apologised for that and three they committed themselves never to allow such a thing to happen and number four, they asked for remission.

    Government had to look at a number of factors because if they have to pay this amount; they will pack up.

He further explained the implications of having the network company pack up. This will “shake the confidence of international investors in Nigerian economy, we must avoid it” and render about 5,000 workers jobless.

Nigeria’s Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, on Thursday said that funds are not available to pay allowances of Super Falcons who won the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) trophy last Saturday because the team was not expected to win.

The victorious female footballers in Abuja on Wednesday seized the trophy and have refused to vacate their hotel rooms for five days.

According to Mr. Dalung, their footballers’ victory took the government by surprise as proper arrangements were not made.

Speaking with State House correspondents over the embarrassing development, Dalung said that if the NFF was confident of the victory in Cameroon, it would have applied for and processed the funds for their bonuses early enough to avoid the ugly aftermath.

He said that government needed to perform a ‘surgery’ on the sports sector otherwise, similar occurrences are bound to happen again.

“It is unfortunate that we are celebrating victory of the Super Falcons amidst some bitter feelings among the players because of some administrative lapses that were not managed properly.

“If the situation was explained to these girls I don’t think the situation would have gotten to this level. But we are working round to clock to ensure that what belongs to them legitimately is given to them. This has to do with government process.

“One thing I always make clear is that the process of request for funds for sporting projects must come earlier to meet the objectives. Don’t forget that nobody even knew the team would emerge victorious, if we were confident they will emerge victorious, all the Federation would have done is to plan for process of participation and entitlement.

“It is already established in sports tradition, when you win this is what you are entitled to. The situation is highly unfortunate and I don’t like it. These girls have given confidence to women who want to embrace sports but this will go a long way in killing this laudable achievement. It is unfortunate but we will make sure the right thing is done,” he said.

He added that the team’s coaches are owed backlog of salaries.

“It is a complex situation but the entire governance of football deserves an urgent surgery. If that surgery is not done we will always live with the embarrassment. I’m talking about the governance of football administration in Nigeria.”

“They use it to scandalise the government so the man who is at the receiving end has the responsibility to ensure that things must be done right so we must take steps to ensure that money meant for athletes get to them on time as at when due.”
